Ultra Verba, Lux Mentis is seeking thoughtful, dependable, and mission-aligned individuals who may be interested in helping guide the growth of an emerging interdisciplinary nonprofit organization.
UVLM is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to advancing cooperation, shared understanding, ethical innovation, equitable access to knowledge, and sustainable systems that serve the common good.

The Opportunity
UVLM is developing its governing board and is interested in connecting with people who can contribute sound judgment, professional experience, community relationships, strategic thinking, and a genuine commitment to the organization’s mission.
Board members help protect the organization’s integrity, provide financial and strategic oversight, support responsible growth, and ensure that UVLM remains aligned with its charitable, educational, and scientific purposes.
This is a volunteer, unpaid governance position.

UVLM is especially interested in individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
nonprofit governance,
organizational development,

Applicants are not expected to have experience in every area.
Core Responsibilities
Board members may be expected to:
support and protect UVLM’s mission,
attend and participate in board meetings,
review organizational plans and policies,
provide financial and strategic oversight,
help identify risks and opportunities,
contribute professional knowledge and perspective,
assist with community and partnership development,
support fundraising and resource-development efforts,
disclose potential conflicts of interest,
maintain appropriate confidentiality,
and act in the best interests of the organization.
Board members are expected to understand that board service involves fiduciary and governance responsibilities. It is different from serving only as an advisor, volunteer, or project contributor.

Time Commitment
The anticipated time commitment will vary by role and current organizational needs.
Prospective board members should generally be prepared to:
attend scheduled board meetings,

respond to important organizational communications,
participate in at least one area of board or committee work,
and contribute additional time during periods of planning, fundraising, or organizational development.
Specific expectations will be discussed before nomination or appointment.
Preferred Recruitment Path
Whenever practical, UVLM prefers to become acquainted with prospective board members before formal appointment.
A prospective candidate may first participate as a:
project volunteer,
professional advisor,
committee participant,
faculty or community partner,
or organizational supporter.
This allows both the candidate and UVLM to determine whether board service is a good mutual fit.
Volunteer Status
This is currently a volunteer, unpaid position.
UVLM is actively pursuing grants, donations, sponsorships, and charitable funding. Future compensation for board service is not promised or anticipated unless formally authorized and legally appropriate.

Ultra Verba, Lux Mentis is inviting college and graduate students to express interest in a new volunteer fellowship program focused on nonprofit development, ethical innovation, technology, research, and community benefit.
UVLM is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) public charity working to advance cooperation, shared understanding, equitable access to knowledge, and ethical and sustainable systems that serve the common good.

About the Fellowship
The UVLM Founding Volunteer Fellowship is intended for students who want to gain meaningful, real-world experience while helping build the foundations of an emerging interdisciplinary nonprofit.
Fellows may work independently or in small cross-disciplinary teams on clearly defined projects that support UVLM’s mission and organizational development.
This is currently a volunteer, unpaid opportunity.
UVLM is pursuing grants, donations, sponsorships, and other charitable funding that may support paid opportunities in the future. Future compensation cannot be guaranteed.

developing UVLM’s digital knowledge infrastructure,

improving website accessibility and usability,
creating nonprofit technology plans,
developing outreach analytics,
supporting ethical technology education,
or designing systems for future grant-supported programs.
What Fellows May Gain
Depending on the project and level of participation, fellows may receive:
real-world nonprofit experience,
portfolio-ready work,
documented volunteer hours,
project leadership experience,

letters of recommendation,
certificates of service,
mentorship,
interdisciplinary collaboration,
public acknowledgement,
presentation opportunities,

References, recommendations, authorship credit, and public acknowledgement will be based on actual contribution and cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Suggested Commitment
The initial pilot fellowship may involve:
approximately 3 to 5 hours per week,
an 8- to 12-week project period,
regular virtual or in-person check-ins,
a defined project or deliverable,
and a final presentation, report, or portfolio item.
Projects may be adjusted to accommodate academic schedules and participant availability.
